The original antique Tiffany lamps designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany are rare and prized commodities among collectors, but you should consider more than just the name on the lamp to decide if the item is fairly priced and worthy of your investment. For those who are just about to start a collection of these timeless lamps, here are some tips to consider:

~Try to stick with shades and bases from the same company. While you can mix and match shades and bases from several makers, collectors tend to prefer only one company per lamp.

~An unsigned stained glass lamp can have better overall quality and overall appearance, raising value considerably for the piece even without the signature from the artist.
~No two stained glass lamps are exactly the same.

~Buy the best lamp you can afford. Lower-priced lamps do not appreciate as quickly as a higher quality more unique lamps will.

~Stay away from damaged lamps or lamps which have undergone repairs. They tend to always remain well below the value of undamaged lamps.
